Thinking About Laser Hair Removal? Why Autumn Is the Perfect Time to Start in Sevenoaks

As the temperature drops and the sun finally takes a back seat, I always find autumn is when clients start asking me the same question: is now a good time to start laser hair removal? The honest answer is yes, and it's one of the best times of year to begin.

If you've been googling laser hair removal near me, here's everything you need to know about the treatment, why autumn suits it so well, and what to expect from your course with us.

Why Autumn Is the Ideal Time to Start

Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment in the hair follicle, and it's most effective and safest on skin that hasn't been exposed to strong sun. Tanned or sun-exposed skin increases the risk of pigmentation changes and reduces how well the laser can do its job. Once the summer sun eases off, your skin is in a much better position for treatment.

Starting your course now also means you can complete the recommended sessions well before next summer arrives. Most clients need 6 to 8 sessions spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart to see optimal results, so beginning in autumn sets you up to be smooth, confident and ready for bikinis, shorts and sleeveless dresses when the warmer months roll around again.

There's also less pressure to avoid sun exposure between appointments, which is one of the most important aftercare steps. Autumn and winter simply make it easier to stick to the plan.

What Is Laser Hair Removal?

We use ND:YAG laser technology, now available on our new machine at the Sevenoaks clinic, which delivers targeted pulses of light energy to heat and disable the hair follicle, preventing future regrowth. It's a treatment I've used on countless clients over the years, and alongside reducing unwanted hair, it also brings genuine skin benefits. The light energy stimulates collagen production, helps even out skin tone, and can leave the treated area looking tighter and fresher, not just hair free.

Areas We Treat

We can treat most areas of the face and body, including:

  • Upper lip, chin, sideburns and full face
  • Underarms
  • Bikini line and Brazilian
  • Half or full leg
  • Half or full arm
  • Back and shoulders
  • Chest and abdomen
  • Hands and feet

What Happens During Treatment

Before we begin, the area is shaved and a cooling gel applied, with protective eyewear worn throughout. The handpiece delivers quick pulses of light and most clients describe a warm, snapping sensation rather than anything painful. Treatment times vary depending on the area, from around 10 minutes for the upper lip up to 60 minutes for a full leg. You won't see results immediately. Hair sheds naturally over the following 1 to 3 weeks as the follicle responds to treatment.

Every client has a patch test before starting their course, and during your consultation I'll assess your hair and skin type to work out whether this treatment is right for you and how we should tailor your settings. ND:YAG laser hair removal works best on darker hair, from brown to black, on lighter to medium skin tones.

What Results Can You Expect?

With a full course of sessions, most of my clients see between 80 and 95% permanent hair reduction. It won't remove every single hair forever, but it makes a genuine, lasting difference to how much shaving, waxing or plucking you need to do, and many clients find ingrown hairs improve too.

Looking After Your Skin Between Sessions

A few simple things make a big difference to your results:

  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning for 2 weeks before and after each session
  • Wear SPF50 daily on treated areas
  • Avoid saunas and hot yoga for 48 hours after treatment
  • Shaving is fine between sessions, but avoid plucking or waxing

We'll talk you through full aftercare at your appointment, so you always know exactly what to do.
